Just when you thought the world wasn’t dangerous enough, Iran is conducting war games to practice protecting their nuclear plants against attack from Israel or the US. The five day drill is said to cover as much as a third of the country and would involve much of the armed forces of the nation.
This is not exactly good news, though it is hardly unexpected. With Iran moving towards the development of nuclear weapons it is probable that Israel will be looking to stop them. Indeed there has beeen considerable speculation that some of the recent US/Russian foreign policy initiatives have been geared towards making sure that Israel is able to get away with doing what the rest of the world cannot.
There is of course the broader question of whether or not Iran should be stopped, on the one hand I am certainly not a fan of them having weapons of mass destruction but at the same time we have to measure the risks and rewards of stopping them.
I suspect this will be a topic of considerable discussion in the coming months.
The Government of Iran are jackasses. If they think we are going to allow them nuclear weapons so they can kill and terrorize millions of unarmed civilians, well they had better think again.
We haven't racked up such a great record with our military ventures since Korea, so I hope the “measure” part of this equation is subjected to some real brainpower. . . for a change.
Bashing the USA is unmerited. What this event, that I heard about this morning, does, though, is provide some fake humor that's good. This Iranian stunt is likely a response to recent US news:
US develops big bomb, that can be used against Iranian nuclear weapons program targets.
[thump-thump-thump against chest]
Iran sees US big bomb, shows it is ready to defend against US attacks against its program.
[thump-thump-thump]
OK, it's our turn next. (Unless Iran wants to do another missile test or tests after the war games first.)
Stating facts does not equate to “bashing the USA”. Feel free to make a note of it.
