I guess you could try asking anyone in Pearl Harbor at the time how an invasion might be possible.

Not saying it would have been immediate, easy, or even possible... but given time there would have been a mainland invasion, and if Hitler had managed to prevail and get the Bomb, it's unlikely we'd be here to talk about it now.

Necessity is the Mother of intervention.

The existence of the United States was literally threatened during WWII. Any conflict providing the same level of danger would be met with an equally great generation of young people - and old - willing to do what it takes to secure our survival.

The modern thread that some attempt to throw around (usually in a politically ideological fashion) that we are "weak" is based on historical ignorance and partisan positioning.

Life was harder in the '30's and as a result so were the people. They would tolerate much more than the citizens now would. The idea that with 24/7 news coverage and talking heads bashing everyone the idea that the US could tolerate such events is far fetched at best.
