It's actually timely to contemplate the Conyers bill. There are lefties on here who have been especially childish and illy behaved the past day or so. (I wonder to what extent it's frustration and little kiddie temper tantrum throwing about the lack of "progress" with health care "reform" as well as expert-ruling news that goes against the grain of feminism, related lefty activism, and the entitlement mentality, in the express case of the revision of mammogram appropriateness criteria. They're taking it out on anybody and everybody that's handy for the purpose, it seems.) Given the childishess we're seeing the past day or so with by some lefties on here (as well as the neurotic obscession and conservative-bashing that is expressed with all the Palin threads and related silliness) it's timely to review the expropriation details of the Conyers bill and imagine childish little lefties seeting and fidgeting and then enjoying good feeling at the misfortune of the providers, as a form of "revenge":

Requirement to Be Public or Non-profit-

(1) IN GENERAL- No institution may be a participating provider unless it is a public or not-for-profit institution.

(2) CONVERSION OF INVESTOR-OWNED PROVIDERS- Investor-owned providers of care opting to participate shall be required to convert to not-for-profit status.

(3) COMPENSATION FOR CONVERSION- The owners of such investor-owned providers shall be compensated for the actual appraised value of converted facilities used in the delivery of care.

(4) FUNDING- There are authorized to be appropriated from the Treasury such sums as are necessary to compensate investor-owned providers as provided for under paragraph (3).

(5) REQUIREMENTS- The conversion to a not-for-profit health care system shall take place over a 15-year period, through the sale of US Treasury Bonds. Payment for conversions under paragraph (3) shall not be made for loss of business profits, but may be made only for costs associated with the conversion of real property and equipment.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R....

"in the Conyers Medicare for All legislation. In that legislation, the "solution" was to make all the private parties of concern converted (forcibly) into non-profits, under public direction (given the federal monopsony)."

Wow, I can almost hear the click of boot heels.

"they will be available to be hired by the 'public option' company that the gov. must create quickly and hopes to attain top-level expertise "

Well, "crowding out" of the private sector by the public option and related government (public) entitles was always the plan. It was just the tail end of the bell curve, the Herd that considers it all "progress," who was the object of the more stupid stuff about (rigged, bogus) "competition" and "keeping the private insurers honest," et cetera.

Note that the problem you are describing is addressed (through unconstitutional expropriative means, not paying for, among other things, lost profits over the subsequent 20-30 years) in the Conyers Medicare for All legislation. In that legislation, the "solution" was to make all the private parties of concern converted (forcibly) into non-profits, under public direction (given the federal monopsony).

Since a defective, but humongous bill, will most likely cause many insurance company personnel to lose their jobs, and cause many doctors to abandon a less lucrative and overly restrictive medical profession, they will be available to be hired by the "public option" company that the gov. must create quickly and hopes to attain top-level expertise asap. Continued fraud in Medicaid accelerated by the sudden influx of patients due to the new bill, will be a bonanza of employment for former insurance company investigators laid off by ailing insurance companies. Talented unemployed actuaries will be employed to calculate "proper premiums" for the new-improved policies offered by all. Final result, a flow of jobs from the private sector to big gov., and wallah probably a net result of more jobs (big gov. sometimes takes more personnel to do the same job) overall. Better medical care, lower costs, who knows?

I suspect the final version to be voted on in the Senate will be suffciently watered down and counterproductive that the party of no will be equally happy whether it passes or not. What a missed opportunity... another of many. And no, this isn't a partisan comment, I'm disgusted with the whole bunch of em.
