The attacks on her have not only been excessive and scummy and made her the news item she otherwise never would be, but it's no surprise if she's exploiting the politics of the situation now, just as she's also marketing herself by risking additional mistreatment by making appearances such as on King's show. Every spare moment she was on camera, she looked right at the camera and flashed that dazzling model's or beauty contestant's smile. I looked at and into her eyes (and into her soul, though that window) and sensed that it was contrived, and she could well have mastered that smile and gentle, relaxed as well as confident image-management while thinking all kinds of ugly thoughts, and I even wondered how easy it would have been to have her looking at the camera and smiling like that, selling her image and herself, while at the same time holding a loaded gun under the interview table either at the camera operator(s), or a loaded gun pointed right at Larry King's — anatomy.

That means that a person's actions dictate their “Christianity”.
Prejean claims that she is against same-sex marriage because of her faith. That's fine.
Then the entire rest of her life doesn't keep with that same faith.
She's being disingenuous to herself and the public when she attributes her beliefs on same-sex marriage to her faith – but doesn't really walk the walk.

I didn't say I didn't like her. I probably wouldn't, though. I've never met the woman, and I will make no effort to judge her heart. That's above my paygrade.

Nobody has any business being repetitively inappropriate in cases like this — it is pestering people.

It's as though King (and others who do this) are children or low-lifes who simply believe they can flout rules and standards of conduct and if they persist, eventually the other party will concede and give them what they want. It's like children who, being told “no,” repeat their demands, over and over. Disgusting.

You made an excellent point. Whatever Prejean says, her actions do not reflect Christian values. They reflect a kind of petty, ammoral self obsession.

My further speculation: she may be lying about having been only 17 when the sex tape was made. By claiming to have been a minor, she puts it in the category of child pornography in an attempt to thwart its distribution. I'll bet many are at work trying to disprove her claim on this (for prurient and profit motivations). I don't think we've heard the last of that part of the story.

there is NO such thing as going on any major news show and the host agreeing to treat your oh so sensitive 'issues' as off the record. Otherwise they'd pass on the author.

secondly, knowing the marketing madness that goes on at big pubs, and watching Miss Prejean's stiff performance, i'd wager dollars to donuts that her so-called mike-off was pre-planned. Her broken record repetition of 'inappropriate' was staged…. and poorly delivered at that.

where the rubber meets the road in christian families who are sincere, I can guarantee that no christian father or mother raising a daughter or son, would hold Prejean up as a model to be emulated. Exactly the opposite. Her 'audience' is other than that huge group. Reason why her book has no legs and no sell through.

It really doesn't matter what I think, because I am not her target audience. Nor is the majority of the people on The Moderate Voice, I would imagine. Remember – she is trying to sell her book, and the target demographic is that tiny (and shrinking) slice of Americana that praises Sarah Palin and likes to play the “liberal media victim” card at any chance they can get.

And by that, I think she played to “her” crowd perfectly. While she may have appeared crass and whiny and small-minded to most of the people watching her on King or commenting about her performance afterwards, it's all in the mind of the beholder. For “her” crowd, she appeared like a hero and strong woman who was willing to stand up the the Bad Boy King and his invasive, meanie-man questions.

Interview did exactly what it was supposed to do – play into the current narrative she is trying to portray about herself, and get attention for her new book.

You are using the word church in an almost derrogatory manor. She may have simlar views of same-sex marriage, but their are also atheists with the same views. You can be a “moral” person and not believe. Your faith is in your actions – and in your reactions. The proof is in the pudding, right?

She is hardly a role-model. As I said… I have very little sympathy.

I realize that as one time Miss California, she was more famous than most of us will ever be, but this seems to be dragging on for an inordinate amount of time. When you think of the people in the world who have done more for the world (good or bad) and received less media attention, this all seems so silly.

How did one person become so famous for doing so little? Is this all the result of her answering a single political question during the Miss USA pageant? Her answer wasn't even all that memorable. It was neither a hate-filled diatribe toward gays, nor was it a heart-felt stand against the status quo. Yet people who disagreed with her remark made her out to be some monster while people who agreed with her remark made her out to be a hero. Yet she was neither.

Each and every one of us at this blog have made comments far more controversial and far more brave than anything Prejean said during the Miss USA pageant. Prejean is a controversy made up by the media for the purpose of increasing ratings and partisan hatred. And sadly, Prejean is going along with it, playing up the conservative victim card.

If CNN violated the terms of the agreement made before the show, then they are obviously wrong. But it seems silly to me for Prejean to demand this kind of media attention and publicity and then skirk away from scrutiny and tough questions. The whole “sex tape” issue really ought to be a non-issue. It's hardly as shocking or sensational as the media is making it out to be.

But then again–so was Prejean.

That’s not really true. They are not hanging on to that old fart for nothing. He gets away with blurting out some mighty intrusive questions that others would never get away with.

I think I'll say the conservative media picks on me because of my alternative BBQ. Then I'll get interviewed by Rachael Maddow and get all perturbed! I smell the dollars, folks!
