I think you are right (sorry correct) and I hope the Reps don't get too confident and mess up by excluding the middle. As characterized in a WSJ editorial article, active voters are more of a herd and easily turned. Watch out Reps so you don't get gored (small G).

The nation-wide concerns of the public were paramount during this election. It was also a referendum, no, not on Obama solely, but on the Dems in general -- but it was not a GOP vote, despite the big GOP victories that counted. (In the most remarkable result, New Jersey, it was exceptional as well, as the voters were preoccupied most not with the economy and jobs, which was by far issue #1 nation-wide, but with corruption and high property taxes.) Even the protest about things going badly currently isn't going to be seen completely as an anti-Dem vote; the far left is already decrying poor turnout among some of the most active Obama voters last year (such as the youth vote) and wants the Dems to resume and make more, not less "progress." Doing something about the current issues that affect the nation (first and foremost being the economy and jobs; a distant second is health care; everything else recedes into relative insignificance currently, compared to the major two issues) remains what people want, and this vote may be interpreted generally as dissatisfaction by everyone (anti-Dem voters and low-turnout Dem voters who were amotivated or demotivated).

Excellent post Marc, it's always refreshing to read a piece that transcends the prevailing low signal to noise ratio environment that so much of the media is caught up in. This is why I keep coming to TMV - the good writing.

Another perfectly written article.

You apparently see many things as I do. I cannot say that I agree with you on every subject, if that is ever possible, but which clearly disturbs you disturbs me also.
.._.

--“and I don’t even understand the claims she is physically attractive”--

I understand completely. I’m much older and should, by all indications, find her at least somewhat attractive. I don’t what-so-ever. Something about her odd shaped head with posterior face that really puts me off. Intellectually, I suspect that she is on crack.

--“and our country’s lost innocence”--

I’m not so certain the “innocence”. Innocence rarely makes enemies. I believe that we are culpable for at least part of the hatred leveled against us.

--“I prefer to take the train but European rail service puts our country to shame”--

I have traveled well myself and I can certainly attest to this statement.

--“The nation’s press and media”--

What angers me about the media, is the way they drive politics. It is reaching a frighteningly dangerous level IMO.
