Leftist hype and distortion about this race (as well as using it to distract from the real lessons learned from Tuesday throughout the nation) don't work except among the pathetically susceptible.

If anything, this was a protest vote against outside interference of any kind.

The Conservative Party exists in New York because numerous GOP politicians are Dems Lite or Not So Lite. "Rockefeller Republican," which brings to mind visions of Empire State Plaza, is a pejorative.

They violated “conventional” wisdom by siding with the Democrat – a person who most of the moderate Repubs wouldn't normally vote for.

By all accounts the Dem was more of a centrist than the Repug that withdrew from the race. The 23rd picked a local blue dog Democrat over a Beck Wingnut…

As I stated on another thread…. I think that this is more of a referendum on the status-quo games that both parties play. The “party” said no to the moderate. Then the “party” says vote for this guy instead. The moderate says vote for the other party, instead of cowtowing to the “party”.

I think the voters are simply tired of playing political games. They violated “conventional” wisdom by siding with the Democrat – a person who most of the moderate Repubs wouldn't normally vote for. The new wisdom will be another animal. That's the biggest reason I think the pump is primed for a viable third (or even fourth) party. People are tired of these some old two-party games. I know I am.

I'm torn as to whether this win is good or bad for Democrats. If the far right remains undaunted, it’s a definite victory. If they are sufficiently humbled, the Democrats may be in serious trouble come a year from now.
