Christie Wins

UPDATE: All the major networks are also calling it for Christie, guess they were waiting for Hudson too.

Now that Hudson County has finally pulled the trigger and turned in the vote we can project Chris Christie the winner of the race for New Jersey Governor.

It’s somewhat comic really that they waited at 57% for more than an hour before jumping in an instant to 97% of the vote.

With 81% of the vote in the tally is as follows

Christie: 951,009 or 49.38%

Corzizne: 852,203 or 44.25%

Daggett: 105,053 or 5.46%

This means Corzine would need a 22 point lead in the remaining 19% of the vote which is quite unlikely.

Looking to the Democratic versus Republican counties tally again.

In 2005 the 3 Democratic counties (Essex, Hudson and Union) had a turnout of 430,000 votes and gave Corzine a margin of 180,ooo votes.

This time theyhad a turnout of 415,000 votes and gave Corzine a margin of 130,000 votes.

In 2005 the 2 Republican counties (Monmouth and Ocean) had a turnout of about 370,000 votes and gave the GOP nominee an edge of 40,000 votes.

This time they had a turnout of about 385,000 and gave Christie a margin of 135,000 votes.

So four years ago Corzine came out of the 5 counties with a net edge of 140,000 votes this time he came out 5,000 votes behind.

A big shift

  • Thanks for the factual analysis. Everyone in Jersey is blaming turnout problems - but with less than a 3% difference in turnout, Corzine went from a nine-point victory to a four-point loss. The problem was that Corzine was simply no better than the polling showed he would be - and that was more unpopular than Bush.

    My input.
