Honestly, I don't know anything about this race or its candidates, but I've seen anyone who wants to reduce federal spending labeled “Extremist”. I also notice a tendency of people to view themself as moderate, making any who are out of line with their position “extreme”. I would bet that Hilter, Marx, and Stalin thought that they were moderates in their times.

Well, that would be the universe in which concerted efforts have been made (for a long time now) to shift the American perception of where exactly the “center” is. If the people can be convinced that basic, standard, garden variety leftists are in fact extremists, then what better way to limit their influence?

I doubt it. He backed Dede because she is more liberal than Owens. Period. Northern New York still has the vestige of a liberal Republican Party.
