Did Kos Con The Right ?

I’m not one who buys into conspiracy theories and I’m not sure that this theory is much more than the musings of a windy Sunday afternoon. But I have been giving some thought to the news out of the election in New York’s 23rd district. The withdrawal of the Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava has led to a great deal of discussion about the war within the party and the split between moderates and conservatives.

One of the more interesting aspects to this campaign was the fact that Markos Moulitsas, editor of the far left web site Daily Kos, more or less endorsed Scozzafava as a better candidate that the Democrat in the race. This fact was used by many on the hard right as evidence that she was unfit to be a Republican and should be removed from the race.

I’ve been skimming the Kos site since and haven’t seen much more discussion of the contest in terms of Markos urging his readers to back Dede or to donate to her campaign.  This is a departure from his usual practice where he pushes hard to get all kinds of support for the candidates he backs.

Which led me to ponder whether this was a head fake on the part of Markos to spark right wing attacks on Dede by expressing support for her. If it was the it is one of the more clever political snow jobs as it has seriously enhanced a split in the NY GOP and has exposed fractures in the national organization.

I’m not sure if he did it, but if he did then he’s a pretty clever guy.

Myself, I’m backing Owens.

I doubt it. He backed Dede because she is more liberal than Owens. Period. Northern New York still has the vestige of a liberal Republican Party.

    In a word: No.

NOTE: when anyone left of neocon ponders an eerily suggestive string of coincidences about GOP behavior they are known as a “wingnut conspiracy theorist”. When a neocon does exactly the same thing about other-than-neocon, it is seen as “musings on a windy day with possibility…”

In what universe is Daily Kos a “far left” web site? because if it is I have missed the part in which they call for the complete and total nationalization of all the means of production….

Well, that would be the universe in which concerted efforts have been made (for a long time now) to shift the American perception of where exactly the “center” is. If the people can be convinced that basic, standard, garden variety leftists are in fact extremists, then what better way to limit their influence?

Just admit it. You enjoyed the retooling of the Rolling Stones' “Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown” over on the other thread…

    lol…

Let's revisit your use of the word “clever” after the election results come in. Most polls are not in your favor.

  9. Buford Gooch says:

This was clever only if you consider uniting a large portion of the right clever. Let's wait until mid November of 2010 to see just how clever the move was.

Is that related to “Scozzafava Endorses Owens, Rejects Republican Extremism”

Honestly, I don't know anything about this race or its candidates, but I've seen anyone who wants to reduce federal spending labeled “Extremist”. I also notice a tendency of people to view themself as moderate, making any who are out of line with their position “extreme”. I would bet that Hilter, Marx, and Stalin thought that they were moderates in their times.
