Halloween Horror Movie Salute

gorerweb.jpgWith our spookiest holiday just around the corner, as is traditional we’ll be having a celebration of the best (and worst!) horror movies on Movie Addict Headquarters today at 4 pm eastern time. Actress Rosemary Gore (pictured here) and Mad Movie Man A.J. Hakari will be joining Betty Jo Tucker and I to review some of the winners and losers of the horror genre. I can always use some suggestions, so feel free to share your own here, or call in to the show from the link above.

Here’s a few to consider…

The great:
The Birds
Nightmare on Elm Street (the original)
Pathology
Freaks

Some of the worst:
Embrace of the Vampire
The Bride
Dracula’s Dog

Ooh! I love scary movies. My favorites are zombie movies. Really, I love the whole Halloween aesthetic.

If this is inappropriate, let me know, mods (and I'll edit down this comment), but I'd love to ask the TMV community for suggestions on songs for a Holloween playlist.
  • We actually have a category here for arts and entertainment. Not everything has to be politics. :-)

October is not about Halloween and candy.

    It's about Octoberfest and Beer.

    At least for adults.

Ok, thanks, Jazz. I was just thinking it might be considered off topic or threadjacking.

Since it's not, here's a couple of suggestions for anyone's Halloween playlist:

    Suggestions? Anyone?

    sorry duplicate post

Leftists can have Al Gore and his extremism-celebrity enviro-idiocy. I'll take Halloween Candy Rosemary.

"I love scary movies. My favorites are zombie movies."

My quiet, sweet colleague and friend in LA, who arrived from Vietnam as a "boat person" and went on to become a fully-assimilated Fox stereotype (complete with US flag displayed at her cubicle, back in the 1980s, before the Fox phenomenon ever developed), sweet, kind, unassuming gentle "S," was a horror movie fan. (I didn't ask her what she thought of "Apocalypse Now.")

I guess a good horror flick has no political party. I just don't like the ones that are too gorey without being cartoony -- like the Saw series -- or things where it's just mostly-naked chicks getting cut into little pieces ("horror porn"). Make it silly-scary, and I'm all over it. The old style terror/suspense films are also pretty awesome, like Rosemary's Baby or The Omen or The Shining.

Lots of good stuff in that genre, all the way from Donnie Darko to Aliens. Don't have much use for gratuitious gore though, at least not when it's humans getting the worst of it. ;-) Don't have much use for gratuitous partisanship either, especially when it's obsessive to the point of idiocy.

    "The old style terror/suspense films"

... are old-style films -- they have an intelligent script, an actual plot that's being followed!
