“senior Senate Democrats signaled they intend to try to strip the insurance industry of its exemption from antitrust laws as part of an upcoming debate over health care”

I was't aware they had an exemption to begin with, I doubt that's common knowledge. Nice for them..

The price tag (a phrase consisting of two words) is still too high. As a rule, all revisions are untrustworthy until proven otherwise.

I was't aware they had an exemption to begin with. What made them so special?

I hadn't heard this before either but apparently this is the law in question.

Thanks for the link CS. I especially enjoyed this part:

The Act also provides that federal anti-trust laws will not apply to the “business of insurance” as long as the state regulates in that area, but federal anti-trust laws will apply in cases of boycott, coercion, and intimidation.”

Well, I guess when they keep raising premium rates through the roof, and the only options are to become less insured, uninsured, or to take a beating, then that might be considered, “coercion”. ;-)

Should the headline say $ 871 billion? $ 871.00 million is probably what Charlie Rangel spends to staff his office!
