The young (often very naive and idealistic, as well as besmitten by an attractive person, and subject to faddish-excess politics as well as contemporary fads like PC-techno-toy infatuation) have been and remain Obama's strongest fans since the start of his campaign (preceding Super Tuesday, the event that actually made him real to everyone else).

Dionne is simply disconnected from reality, and merely raises the question why he would write such nonsense. Is it a nagging for Obama to shift leftward and appeal to the stronger advocates of a greater federal-government health-care role (and legislation currently being sought), or a defensive strategy and mischaracterization of the current situation, by denigrating (at least by implication) those who are being robbed and threatened with worse by the current effort, which leads them to question or to reject it?

The younger voters are the only reason why Obama won the election. If he abandons them, or if they become dissatisfied with his administration, he can kiss his chances in 2012 goodbye.

-Nikki-

Most of the young people I meet are totally internet savvy and involved in their world on a political level in some way or another. Most of them are thrilled that Obama [not a republican] sits in the Whitehouse and are in support of this fresh new face in Washington.

Polling and statistics are subject to pollution from those people conducting them, particularly if they have an agenda from the onset. The word on the street is far more reliable. Just get out and walk around.
