Fiscal conservative, and right-sizing Washington, is out of fashion, sadly. Were it to materialize I would believe the GOP would earn more respect among many (even if they lost the social conservative crowd).

Leonidas,

The problem is that Dede is not really a fiscal conservative unless you believe that government can tax its way to a balanced budget. She is a political insider who will do whatever the Democrats want her to do. Anyone who will give militant homosexuals whatever they want will always vote for higher taxes and more spending.

Actually the Republican establishment IS part of the problem.
Scozzafava supporters blame her cash crunch on the Washington Republican establishment, which they contend has not embraced her campaign enthusiastically. They specifically point to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, whose committee has been virtually absent from the race and hasn’t yet donated any money, with just weeks to go before the Nov. 3 special election.

“Chairman Steele hasn’t put up a cent, not even the obligatory $5,000,” said a New York-based GOP operative. “There’s been no support from the RNC. Democrats are going all out for this race. Everyone’s in the same direction.”

If the GOP goes in this direction, to support fiscal and ideological conservatives, it could change the whole system.

The only problem is, that a huge number of Americans are social-conservatives. The DNC already abondoned them. If the GOP abandons them as well, it will most-assuredly lead to a viable third party push. These people are already teetering on the edge, and this may just tip them over.

It really is a joke. Dede is very conservative on all but two real issues. Gay marriage and abortion. the funny thing is those two have little to no effect on anyone's day to day life. Abortion will not become illegal because of her no matter her beliefs. Gay marriage...... I'm just tired of hearing about it. Hell just get the government out of that argument already.
