Olbermann Right, Matthews Wrong On Rush/NFL

Those who read my postings know that I am not a fan of either Rush Limbaugh or Keith Olbermann and I often am critical of the crap they spew from opposite ends of the political spectrum. I’m also not a very big NFL fan so I really don’t care who owns what team.

But I have been bothered by the recent controversy where people said that Rush should not be allowed to buy a team because of his political views. I may not like Rush but he has a right to his views and I support anyone who says the same, even if I disagree with them.

Given his usual disdain for anyone who disagrees with him I was thus quite surprised to find none other than Keith Olbermann defending Rush and criticizing those who opposed him as a potential NFL owner. Give credit where credit is due, in this case he took the high road, supressed his personal distaste for Rush and stood up for what is right.

Good for you Keith.

By contrast, while I am usually a fan of Chris Matthews I was distressed to see his program where he not only cheered the news that Rush had been removed from the buyers group but gleefully spent a considerable time attacking him for everything he’d ever said.

Even worse, while condemning Rush for being ‘divisive and racist’ he brought on a guest….. Al Sharpton.

Condemning racism while having Sharpton as your guest in the segment ?

Shame on you Chris.

Have to admit, Olbermann had one of those rare moments when i could agree with him. That being said, I think it would have been a mistake for Rush once the news was out he was part of the deal. I just cant see fan attendence getting any better with his name attached openly to the team.

Credit to Olbermann, and shame on Chis Mathews and Shiela Jackson Lee for her even more silly than usual comments on the matter,

It has nothing to do with his right to buy or be a part owner of a team. It has everything to do with the people that own the NFL not wanting someone like Rush hurting the NFL brand.

Rush says he was “okayed” by the NFL…..he was never okayed by the owners and they are the ones who have the right to decide.

Hey, he has every right to buy a team. And players have every right to not play for that team and fans have every right to not go to games and advertisers have every right to pull their ads…ect…

As Shannon and Leonidas said, Rush has the right to own a team. But there are various reasons it would have been a bad business decision. His reputation only has the ability to keep fans away, which is not what you need in a “small market” NFL team. As the richest sports league in the nation, the owners have no reason to want the possible image risk when there's going to be someone else with the money eventually. But, it's completely up to them as owners of the league.

I will confess, I think Rush does damage to our nation through his work. He's a demagogue, not a conservative. I would have a harder time buying a Rams jersey because of it. The NFL wants to sell jerseys.

Take a simple BUSINESS decision add in a dose of Sharpton and a pinch of Matthews/Oberman, stir in some wacko lefties and righties and what you don't get is a simple business decision; just of bunch of noise.

I can only imagine the morale of the St Louis Rams if the “halfrican americans” on the team took issue with a racist being their “owner”. Slaves of owner? Get it?

Can you imagine how bloated Pus Windbagh's ego would be if he had a bunch of “boys” earning money for him out in the field?

Not to mention the pummeling that team would take just because..they'd need a handicap before each game. The “fight in the dog” factor would go to the opposing team every single time.

What I find yet again disheartening is the Left showing that they wish to control what can be thought and said. Add to that the potentially libelous statements by the MSM throwing out bogus quotes by Rush to discredit him. Talk about thoughtcrime come to life!

And this is from someone who does not listen to Rush and overall does not agree with most of his silliness. However, I agree with the general comment I have read that it seems OK to be associated with the NFL if you beat your girlfriend, are strongly implicated in a murder, run dog fighting rings, do drugs, but be overtly Conservative and somewhat controversial? That is beyond the pale.

How is Rush any more to the Right what Olbermman is to the Left? And Olbermman in the end is now the voice of sanity for the Left on this issue?

Please cite a few examples where the evil Liebrul media put words in Limpbaughs mouth.

“the Left showing that they wish to control what can be thought and said” [compounded by additional misconduct such as libel, which is hardly the first time]

Yes, and of course the double-standard (hypocrisy) as well as Pee-Cee brown-shirt tactics once more, once again showing the vast gulf of asymmetry, of so vastly much more misconduct of the Left versus anything similar (though rarely comparable) on the Right.

(PC has always included the vicious suppression of dissent or heterodoxy).

@@There is a difference between employees and ownership. The NFL strongly disciplines any player that does anything to damage the NFL brand. NFL owners have to be 10 times as clean as the players.@@

And apparently yet another difference too when it comes to coaches who get caught cheating. They apparently were not too worried about brand image in that case.

  10. shannonlee says:

There have been a number of quotes on left wing sites that cannot be sourced…Rush is going to win a number of lawsuits.

Rudi: Rick Sanchez, a dolt louder than Limbaugh and far less impressive*, is the most stellar example.

(Sadly, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch apparently didn't leave the play-pen-to-worse leftism to its cartoons.)

    * Sanchez is the loud-mouth Dem-lockstep “journalist” plebian who rudely disparaged and frequently interrupted criticism of the “public option”-based Democratic health care “reform” effort by someone farther on the Left, Steffie Woolhandler. That's how shallow as well as loud-mouthed Sanchez can be.

  13. AustinRoth says:

It is not even just the left-wing sites. Some of them were broadcast on CNN and MSNBC among others, and printed in major newspapers.

A note on Huff Post and Rick Sanchez

HuffPo, Rick Sanchez retract phony Limbaugh quotes

  15. DLS says:

All that's missing from these lefties (and so many others with few or no scruples, which is common about and among them) is “appropriately [selectively] truthful” self-revelation such as that of April Oliver and other “crusaders” in and outside of “journalism”:

“Who cares if it actually was true or not, as long as the right story was told and the right results were achieved?”

  16. DLS says:

As far as Olbermann, his far-lefty Polanski moment was a real-world refreshment. Rare though it is…
