"So far they have been simply impotent and petty."

And impudent, and ...

But, they are in charge. Please understand, I am not the fan of the lib Dems, but they are in charge of things (especially in the Animal House) and they have had a recent ally in Obama (notably with the ugly "climate" legislation, apparently one of the things encouraging similar yucky stuff from Boxer and Kerry in the Senate). To me it seems the real question is if the Blue Dogs (and other "Republicans" in addition to Snowe, like Collins) will go along (with "history" [snicker]) in order to be popular or at least better accepted among the other, more lib Dems in Washington and in the rest of their little world.

The fate of the healthcare bill is not in the hands of Obama and Snowe, its in the same hands its always been in, the Democrats in Congess who have enough votes between then to pass a healthcare bill. Problem is, the Liberal and Moderate wings can't agree. They have had the numbers required since January, they just don't have interparty agreement, and all they can seem to do is blame Republicans for their own inability to act, at least theats what the liberals do.

So far they have been simply impotent and petty. I don't see them moderating this behavior anytime soon. It will take election losses to drive the point home.

So far, far-lefty talk radio this morning seems directed right on this. The common viewpoint is that the Dems shouldn't over-value and give too much power and influence to, and sacrifice anything at all for, Snowe (or later, to one or two others in the GOP who might be convinced to vote for final legislation).
