Moyers misses things, as usual. Of course the established interests are going to lobby against anything that hurts them. The only reason some insurers have been participating with the Dems (as they did in the early 1990s) is that it leaves them alive and in the health care field, for at least a few years more. They're obviously on borrowed time and facing increasing regulations and worse, which normal people rightly question. (Some cannot understand the obvious, but even the many facing all kinds of problems now aren't necessarily so desperate and non-thinking that they're willing to risk the likely prospect of things becoming even worse for themselves, and accept anything and everything that politicians propose, just because some politicians call it "reform" or some other nice-sounding name.)

Where Moyers fails with the revolving door metaphor as a generality is in neglecting the irony about it, that those best qualified or fitted to regulate or otherwise legislate about a field of business are those who understand it best, which are those who are actually working in that field.

Not like any of this is actually a "newsflash". Not for those of us watching the chips closely as they fall one-by-one. Just keep writing the legislators is all I know that makes an inkling of difference; and I have my doubts about that.

If people are comfortable with what they have they are willing to ignore lots of things... even their government being taken away from them. It's not alarmist and it's no joke. The democracy we lived with in this country for the first couple hundred years is no more. It's a business now.
