Hi LL. I did read that some are already state parks. I don't consider the federal government designating land as a national park rather than a state one to be any sort of "land grab." For example, people who love America's wild places can buy a parks pass that gets them into all our national, but not state, parks. Further, I think the National Park Service does a better job than Utah at managing park lands. Finally, National Park designation is more resistant to changing state fortunes. I think it's a good move.

DLS - that Jazz' rep in DC is the sponsor of the bill is one reason why we decided to discuss it on our show this morning. We thought it would be a fun set up....

Green - go read my post on the subject. A large majority of the lands in question ARE ALREADY SET ASIDE as state parks. There is no reason for the feds to take them over except for the fact that it is just one more thing for the feds to run.

LL

I treasure our National Parks and federal protected lands. The canyon country of the American Southwest is the most quintessentially American landscape there is. As far as I know there is nothing remotely like it anywhere. Lots of places have seashores, mountains, forests, wetlands and prairies. This is truly special. I applaud any effort to keep these amazing places pristine.

Letterman: it figures; he's the favorite liberal late-show host. Sleazebag.

More land grabs in the West? Where's Ken Burns and his dimwit cheerleader contingent to cheer it?

Jazz, note that one person in favor of the land grab is none other than "Social Security will be more valuable in the future if we leave it alone" [do nothing to save it during the Bush years when the Dims had their best chance in years] Hinchey.

Are the wacky lunatic lib Dems in the House (inmates running that asylum) really going to try this?

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705330758/Ho...

http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/story.asp?id=...
