What a great article! I have been looking forward to this series ever since I heard about Mr. Liddick's travels to Iraq. Having never traveled to that part of the world, I highly appreciate the insight and the perspective from within the military setting. I'm looking forward to being taken on the next journey through this land and others as I continue to read about his adventures past, present and future!

I appreciate the article and look forward to reading subsequent “entries”. My own experiences within Arab countries are similar to what has been described here. Though I’m not so certain about the big “thank you” redirection as being relevant beyond customary modesty common in American culture and the vast divide between western and eastern cultural courtesy. It’s something that after a few months one learns how to integrate into one’s own interactions and discourses, provided of course that one is isolated away from daily western contact and influences. Which IMO is absolutely necessary in getting to the information one seeks.
