“Rather than enact the reforms there is a majority of support for now” – like the public option, at 65% support among the public at large, including 40% of Republican voters, and a majority of Democrats and independents?
Yet strangely, support for the public option among Republican elected officials is not 40%, but zero. Out of touch, perhaps?

Why would opponents of the public option stoop as low as the dimmest Dims and their camp followers?

They've wrecked their health care "reform" effort due to their ineptitude, overreach, and progressive repelling of everyone but their fellow extremists.

They're too childish and stupid, so far, to prepare for loss or exchange of the public option and get any real reform measure in return, which they should have directed their attention to instead all this time, anyway. It's probably a very poor bet that they'd have the brains and the willingness to "co-opt the co-ops" and turn these into the public option as much as possible, in all but in name, for example, or to change them more boldly into federally (and possibly state-) subsidized or fully supported non-profit organizations, even calling them quasi-private (like Amtrak, or Fannie Mae). I.e., they can't or won't even manage to succeed currently at alternative incrementalist federal takeover measures to the public option.

The enemy of healthcare reform is the liberal wing of the democratic party at this moment. Rather than enact the reforms there is a majority of support for now, they continue to delay such passage trying to get through a measure that does not have enough votes to support. In the meantime they delay the reforms that could be passed to the benefit of the American people. Its not like they can't work in the future to push the rest of their agenda. If its so good and inevitable why the rush for things that don't yet have enough support. They need to stop squawking and playing partisan politics and pass what there are votes for.

The enemies of healthcare reform are spending billions in media adds countering reform. Suddenly it becomes apparent where all the money went that could have been used for healthcare all these years. We paid for it in the Great American Insurance ponzi scheme.

Bleed them dry. Drag it out in the media every single day until next election.
