Republican Rebound on Health Care

One salubrious side effect of the current debate has been the emergence of an energized GOP with a new generation of original thinkers:

*South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, who previously described health care as “Obama’s Waterloo” that will “break him,” now observes that the debate is putting American troops at risk in Afghanistan.

He tells an interviewer that “the war in Afghanistan and our economy are our two biggest issues but he’s working on other issues such as healthcare and he’s putting off the decision on Afghanistan which I think puts our troops at risk.”

*House Minority Whip Eric Cantor offers an imaginative solution for the uninsured. To a town hall questioner with a relative who needs a cancer operation but has no way of paying for it, Cantor suggests a 21st century Scrooge option: “there are charitable organizations, there are hospitals here who do provide charity care if there’s an instance of indigency.”

*Senate Finance Committee Republicans, who normally oppose government spending, are warning older Americans that Democrats are determined to “make Medicare solvent by basically slashing all [provider] reimbursements so they don’t treat Medicare beneficiaries”…

So the Republicans are finally willing to admit defeat on something (the war in Afghanistan) Unfortunately they're doing it in an attempt to gain politically.

Let's see… if Bush were in the WH and someone wanted to pull out of his wars he (and the rest of the GOP) would have labelled them terrorists sympathizers. This would have been done to squelch dissent, a free flow of ideas and for political gain.

Let's see if Obama starts calling the GOP obstructionists (as Bush called the Dems many times) and start labelling people who don't agree with him as terrorist sympathizers.

    Huh????

The GOP wants him to focus on Afghanistan and get the generals what they need to win, they are behind Obama's promise to support the troops there and urge him to follow through. They aren't propossing a cut and run, thats coming from the left. If Obama keeps his promises then it will be interesting to see if the left-wing of his party supports him or starts carrying “Obama War Criminal” or “President Betray-Us” signs.

If Obama calls Republicans “obstructionists,” he will have been caught making another misstatement.

The Dems have sidelined and bypassed the GOP in Congress. They even are threatening openly to engage in deliberately unethical behavior to pass controversial legislation due to their desperation over their self-engineered debacle currently.
