I am concerned that if the direction of the news is Political talk show appearances and TV infomercials interrupting normal programing to stake out partisan talking points, all opinion, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to back up the rhetoric with concrete propossals full of accurate and candid details, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding.

–Leonidas, the tired of Whit House fluff speeches with little or no substance. Show me a bill of your propossals, don't recite a speech.

Well, yeah we've seen quite an evolution of noisy opining (without regard for fact checking) in the 21st, although it actually started before that. Not much chance of finding common ground when demonizing seems to be the number one goal.

I caught ur comment on the “chickification” of the media [not ur word!] in Althouse and sadly agree. The groupthink on both sides is serious, but with the nets and most cables simply parroting DNC & WH talking points, Fox is not only salutary, but an absolute necessity to get perspective on the insanity that DC grows like mushrooms fed horsesh*t in the dark.

But if your going to “pussify” the media, I like Fox liberal commentator Kirsten Powers as a good example of crossing over, so to speak.

Yes, jchem, I actually included that in my latest blog-rant, where I relentlessly cherry-pick stories that the MSM buries or overlooks, even Fox. I think Mr. Gandelman disappeared the lede, as they say. Nothing like a Venezuela-style media to advance those goals of social justice at home and obsequious acquiescence abroad.

The Hill article discusses the possibility of a newspaper industry bailout and how President Obama would be happy to look at such bills. That isn't that big of a deal to be mentioned?

Not all blogs are opinions. There are some that do much fact-checking and investigation. But there are a sizable number of blogs who's fact-checking and investigation is serious colored along partisan lines. They preach to the choir under the guise of investigation when really they are cherry picking information and wrapping it around opinion. But the MSM does that as well (and even worse at times).

So this is just about a general culture of news where mutual understanding is few and far between. In most of our daily lives, we live in an environment of mutual understanding (i.e. interacting with with cashiers, ordering food, dealing with contractors, etc). Sad that we can't carry it over many times.
