The conservative attacks on ACORN really started in earnest to divert attention from that group in California that was found to be changing voter registration form party affiliations from Democratic to Republican. It was proven to be a company wide scam and the head of the company went to jail. The group (a private company) was Positive Majority or something like that. Mainly a case of projection, if we do it they must also do it.

ACORN hires the people it helps. I for one am not too surprised to learn that they would have such an attitude. Also not included in Fox's report is that the pimp & ho were kicked out of more of ACORN's offices than they were welcomed in.

Anyway now that Congress has moved so boldly on a government contractor who offered advice to pretend criminals, I am interested to see what happens now to say, government contractors who killed people, sold weapons on the black market in Iraq, stole billions. No, I am dreaming, we renewed their contracts.

Black - something.

The better run charities often exist, but there are ideological problems about allowing them to serve the same client populations. I am, of course, referring to religious charities. These organizations often have very good records of putting more of the donations into mission than administration, and providing competent, quality services.

Organizations like Catholic charities were willing to provide adoption services and the like until the law suits from various socially progressive persons who wanted to force the Catholics to provide services which conflict with their religious views. Catholics have in some instances decided to stop providing social services when they were sued to demand that they provide adoption services to homosexual couples, or birth control. The progressives don't seem to have been too concerned about the ending of social services to the poor when the providers were certain religious groups.

President Bush wanted to try to facilitate this, but, of course, it was seen as unacceptable for religious organizations to receive the money, since this was a conflict of the separation of church and state. I agree, it would be nice to see the Republicans do something to provide for the needy, but in fairness, they have tried - and been shot down because of the religious issue. I don't think we would be as well served trying to re-invent the wheel as we would be in allowing effective non-profit groups to serve the needy. However, unless we get some sort of legal exemption from the conflict of church and state issue, I just don't see it happening easily.

Once ACORN is dismantled, I wonder if Republicans will actually use some of their energy positively and replace it with their own better run charities. Maybe we can get DLS on the front lines helping impoverished minorities?
