dunno_moire, can you understand how those in California who were denied the rights to marry due in part to politicians like this preaching vociferously about the “sanctity of marriage” might see this “card” as rather relevant? How about those young women who are denied accurate information about reproduction due to Family Values politicians pushing abstinence-til-marriage sex ed? Legally, this man is culpable of ethics violations because of his position and his mistress' job as a lobbyist, but on a moral level, is it really that difficult to see why the hard-line “Family Values” position of this particular politician might piss some people off?

Noramlly I don't care at all if a politician is cheating or bragging, it doesn't effect their job whether it was Clinton and his cigar or Mark Sanford and his mistress. However, we are talking about a lobbyist here and thats a whole different matter potentially. I think they should go over this one with a fine toothed comb and see if votes were influenced.

How sad and pathetic. Is it really that important to play the “Family Values” card that people are willing to be hypocritical in the process? Surely there are nuanced positions in the gray zone. In the end I suppose his sexual morality dilemma pales when compared to the criminal/ethical issue of selling/trading influence.

In reasons this doesn't fall into the category of “none of the public's business”: the two women who this man was having affairs with are both lobbyists. At least one of them was a lobbyist for an energy company…while Duvall was sitting on the energy committee. Something tells me that the strick code of ethics that dictates the behavior between lobbyists and politicians they're lobbying doesn't include multiple rolls in the hay.

Just had to get that out there before someone started talking about Clinton and “private matters” and all that.
