If she were more honest and courageous (and as opportunistic), she and Collins would become Democrats, as like Arlen Specter finally has.
Of interest, though, is that New England (more than the Mid-Atlantic) is substantially liberal and blue. The “Republicans” there make liberal California Republicans seem actually conservative, sometimes.

Re: New England, in particular, but not just that place:
How about going beyond the post-2000 or post-2004 empty threats by libs to secede? Maybe what's needed among patriotic, red [pun intended] blooded Americans is a healthy “expulsionist” movement.
(And the federal debt goes with 'em!)
