Right, just like those sane Democrats who decided we should give it a hundred years or so before we actually enforced the Emancipation Proclamation.

In fact, the Civil Rights Act was a sweeping and incredibly landmark change in our policy from what, 1963 to 1965 and only 100 years or so in the making.

He's just being a sane Democrat. The current effort is ridiculously rushed, of course, and is as sloppy when not pathological as the other things the Dems have increasingly badly done, only the worst so far.

Aside from the poor quality of the Dems' conduct and legislation and underlying goals --

Obviously the health care effort and anything else that is costly should have waited for economic recovery.

But intelligence is in short supply where it counts, even though Lieberman is trying to reinject it as a Dem.

It does not.

He's essentially saying: "Let's put it on the back burner until all of our other problems go away." Which problems are going away by having a large, & growing, segment of society be disease vectors for the rest of us? Which health care issue is going to be solved by letting more & more of the poorer end of the financial spectrum get government supported health care in our public hospitals & emergency rooms?

I care about people, I have several members of my family who are currently uninsured, I have many friends who are likewise, uninsured. I work part-time at a county hospital. It would be full time, but there are more patients than money & I see people who are dying who would be active & contributing members of our society if they would have been able to have seen a doctor when the first symptoms cropped up.

& can someone please tell me what benefit that the insurers do society which a single payer plan couldn't do better? Joe Lieberman can't.
