Sure its been exaggerated, but so has much on the other side.

The New York Times, a bastion of Liberal thought, seems to suggest concerns by the elderly are somewhat justified

A Basis Is Seen for Some Health Plan Fears Among the Elderly

Another related issue is the VA's “Death Book”

I was aware already of the “death book,” the reintroduction of end-of-life fun and games at VA by Obamaco.

(“If President Obama wants to better understand why America's discomfort with end-of-life discussions threatens to derail his health-care reform, he might begin with his own Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He will quickly discover how government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care. …”)

Never mind that there are other precedents that I've listed that so many cannot or will not recognize are on normal people's minds all the time, including the past history of “appropriateness” (including this and other concerns raised by the people associated with ClintonCare years ago), ethics boards at some hospitals that already may withhold care on the grounds of “futility,” the nature and _attitude_ of so many on the Left who are advocates of euthanasia — not to mention general concern about rationing and the current effort that's “funded” [snicker] by simply taking $500 billion out of Medicare (this, by people who have loudly threatened not only to reduce Medicare payments to providers, but who have stated, as Nancy Pelosi has, that providers, pharmaceutical companies, etc., should “sacrifice” much more).

It's no surprise at all that seniors are among the most concerned of the ever-more-concerned public.

I could even make jokes about the euthasianacs and the idiotic destruction of motor vehicle engines with the Cash for Clunkers program, but that program is (at least for now) winding down now.

    “forced exit”:

“I hope you have a very pleasant journey…” says the person pouring the poison into the vehicle's engine…

Sorry, guys, but the “Death Book” ain't that big a deal. Seriously — what is it that freaks everybody out so bad about thinking through how you want things handled if you can't make the decisions?

I mean… who wants to be the next Terri Shiavo?????

I'm inclined to wonder when someone starts screaming “THEY”RE LIBERALS!!!” anymore. If that was such a bad thing then McCain would have won the election by more than a landslide. (You may notice that he lost by a fairly large majority) But, to a certain mindset that is the ultimate insult. The NY Times does have unabashedly liberal columnists & commentators, but it also has people who one normally sees on Faux Nooz (William Kristol, for one, comes to mind) which tells me that the Times is at least trying to be fair & balanced (unlike that other aforementioned NY based news organization which is unabashedly & avowedly conservative).

If you don't like what a columnist or talking head has to say, then you are not required to read/listen. However, I would recommend that you do, since otherwise how will you know what the “enemy” is really planning as opposed to what the <strike>corporate</strike> conservative interests in this country are saying that they are trying to do.

Somehow, the “LIBERALS!!” were right about so many of the crimes of the Bush Admin, yet they are still inherently & by definition wrong about anything happening now.

    Strange, passing strange.

Thing is I really did want to discuss what Ms. Maddow showed us in this clip, but now I feel that the discussion has been hijacked. I guess the teabaggers (I'm originally from near San Francisco, I'll let you guess what that term means in the gay community – of which I've never been a part, but have had friends & neighbors who were) have once again stifled democracy in action.

Polimom — in addition to the “death book” issue (which was visited this afternoon on “All Things Considered,” as I heard while on the road in the last hour), you need to pay attention to the related items I listed. (They should obviously not go unnoticed, nor have they by many, as they are all pertinent.)

It's not that hard to understand, though there are many who cannot or don't want to understand, or in support of this bad health care effort, don't want others to understand.

This “Death Book” is just another fear tactic to add to the “Death Panel”. This book is the same one that has been in use since 1997. The Bush administration also kept it in use. The guy is was on TV “fearing this” also per chance has his own manuel he would like the military to use. Just more fear mongering.

Get a grip people. If you already haven't head the discussions with your doctor and family regarding end of life issues, you need to do it. The end of life provision in the proposed bills are a help for those who have not had these discussions, and family can be a part of these conversations. People should also talk with their pastor or whoever they trust for advice even a lawyer it they choose. The doctor would be the best for medical advice along with families, friends and others you choose for advice as sounding boards.

It is time to live in the real world.

  8. Leonidas says:

FYI The Bush administration got rid of the Deathbook. It seems to have been ressurected under the Obama administration. But its off topic and no need to go into it.
