While waiting for Michael Moore's movie "Capitalism, A Love Story" to come out, I found this new movie about stock market corruption called "Stock Shock." I heard "Capitalism" is being well received at the Venice Film Fest.

In the meantime Stock Shock-The Movie"Stock Shock" follows several Sirius XM investors through their experience of watching their stock go from almost ten dollars a share---down to 5 cents/share. The movie suggests this might be due to flash trading, greedy hedge funds, "naked short selling" and other market manipulation by high rollers on Wall Street. I don't know if I'm a believer, but at least it gives a good review of how our stock markets are engineered.

"Capitalism is not necessarily a bad thing; However, Capitalism with no restraints is evil and fatally cannibalistic."

The current American economic system cannot be likened to anything like pure capitalism. It's a hodge-podge of New Deal welfare statism and Republican-sanctioned corporatism. Capitalism in its pure laissez fair form is all about property rights and individual liberty. Wherever you see (to whatever degree) that form of socio-political organization, you find (to the same degree) a just and prosperous society. It's NOT PERFECT. Just like democracy isn't perfect; but it's fair and the best that our imperfect species has been able to devise.

Roger and Me is now a twenty year old movie. You can go and watch anytime you want, it has help up very nicely. It may not be first class art but it is art. What will Ann Coulter leave behind other than nasty vicious screeds?

And there will always be a market for this kinda stuff, after all attack of the killer tomatoes can be found in the local video store as well, Coulter leaves over 3 million books on the bookshelves of America. Place them alongside the Micheal Moore videos and Attack of the Killer tomatos.

For a really eye-popping look at Capitalism run amuck as aided and abetted by US politicians, try reading the best seller "BAD MONEY" by Kevin Phillips. The book provides a clear look and deep insight into what is happening in the financial sectors and the economy of the US today.

Capitalism is not necessarily a bad thing; However, Capitalism with no restraints is evil and fatally cannibalistic.

DrJ-I am sorry if you misunderstood or if I said it badly but I was not saying the right is worse but that they are much the same but that does not mean that both sides do not make good and important points you just have to shift through each sides BS to find it but they are worthy nuggets. Other than that I cant really disagree with any of your post as I 100% agree but I would note that all of the things that do not and should not matter DID once it was our money bailing them out and I think that is proper as well. If they have a problem with it give us our money back and go away. I can't really think of anyone that will govern currently on the "capitalism is evil" meme, they all seem almost as fond of it as those on the right they just want to regulate. Of course the problem is that right or left we regulate partially out of intelligence and the rest gets split up with local interests to get votes or lobbyists ideas that oddly hurt competition :). The health care issue is the only place where I see them using anything close to "capitalism is evil" but what do you expect in an industry that is supposed to begin with the idea "first do no harm" and then becomes part of an industry that is bankrupting the populace and the nation(I think they just get a leg to stand on with this argument but the other issues tend to avoid "capitalism is evil" in the US because we all think we are capitalists while we labor which I still find hilarious). This is of course is why I am a Ron Paul fan though I just doubt someone that would fix the system by gutting it would ever get the media exposure to make any real change considering the media is largely owned by mega-corps that make giant piles of money off of what they lobby for.

SkyFather, I'm not going to respond to "maybe, but the right is worse" because it's an argument that goes nowhere except around in overheating circles.

Regulation is the answer, but not regulation guided by the "capitalism is evil" principle. Capitalism is not only good, it's the engine of our prosperity, and regulation should be geared to yield as much of it as possible.

In the case of Wall Street, the regulatory failure was not in having banks or in allowing them to pay big bonuses, it was in allowing them to become too big (or more properly, too few) to fail. This was a major government failure, which left the whole air supply of the economy going through a few big firms. When they got in trouble we couldn't do what we should have: let them take their companies, their shareholders, and their hopes for fat bonuses off to bankruptcy court.

DrJ-By that rule so is most of our media culture, Fox, MSNBC, WSJ, NYT's, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and the entire radio dial. I agree with Moore to a point that it is the victim but I equate gov with us the citizenry I just think the best answer is Ron Paul but short of that I will take regulation. The right has its very own demonizations that are unhelpful and naive but if you listen to both sides war chants you can find many good solutions if you tie them together. and of course if you actually listen like in the case of Bowling For Columbine. I also think it is important to highlight that while we fear socialism and want capitalists to keep the fruits of their taking risks we have a bad habit as a nation, at least in my lifetime, of giving money to corps to keep jobs which socializes their risks while we get no socialization on returns and its pretty much BS. I fail to see how anything short of a Ron Paul style tiny federal gov and/or a ban on any lobbying money this can be changed.

If yMoore wants to criticize the giving of taxpayer dollars to Wall Street corporations and banks, then I'm with him. But doing so under the guise of attacking capitalism means that Moore is either A) patently dishonest, or B) unaware of what capitalism truly means.

Please make a list of places and times during which the government has not given Corporations, Banks and Wealthy People money and privileges.

Please define "Capitalism" and then make a list of places that practice or have practiced "Capitalism" as you define it in the last half millennium.

"Sicko was pretty brilliant and arguably why we are so focused on health care now"

And why so many people are advocating naive solutions based on the simplistic demonizations he served up.

We're clearly in for more of the same with Capitalism. Government takes taxpayers' money on a promise to spend it sensibly. Corporations come lobbying their own interests. Government hands taxpayers' money over to them. The 10-trillion dollar organization with sovereign power, armies, and prisons is the victim, you see. Its failures to the public interest must be blamed on much smaller groups that weren't entrusted with it to begin with.

Mr. Moore's narratives are themselves unhelpful to the public interest.

Moore stands up for what he believes in the same way Ann Coulter does, I can do without either. I defend their right to engage in their partisan propaganda, but I still think both are laughingstocks.

I really think he gets more of a bad wrap from those that do not understand his films than anything else. Most people that I know that hate Bowling For Columbine have never seen it and the obvious sign is that they think it is about guns. It was not it was actually about our media culture and why it is that Canadians have guns but they do not go killing big groups of people at their local high schools, the reason they do not constantly try to make their viewers afraid of everything. It was actually pretty brilliant because almost everyone missed it since the anti-gun people missed the message as well. Moore is a new deal union type and his films are about as slanted as fox news but if you actually watch them you often realize that many of his messages are pretty important and not as cartoonish as you once thought. Sicko was pretty brilliant and arguably why we are so focused on health care now and I would also like to note how much he picked on Dems in that film for their health care ties. Of course you would have to see the films to know this though.

For whatever you think of Michael Moore, he is actually doing something to make an impact, and, is making an impact, for what he believes. We here just yap about it, never really convincing anybody of anything that might change an opinion.

I can understand disliking Moore (even though I don't), but to criticize him for being wealthy is so obnoxious. There's nothing wrong with being able to succeed within a system that exists without liking that system. It's like being a champ at a game you don't really enjoy. I always have a hard time understanding this charge of hypocrisy from the right for lefities that are well off financially. We care about the welfare of others so we should live like paupers? Like if we're willing to pay taxes on our bag of gold we don't deserve it in the first place? Being able to play the game as it's set up, while at the same time striving to make the game better, does not mean that we shouldn't be able to enjoy the fruits of our success.

From what I saw from the trailer, the whole thrust of his argument seems flawed. Giving taxpayer dollars to Wall Street corporations and banks isn't capitalism; it's corporatism, which has absolutely nothing to do with capitalism.

If yMoore wants to criticize the giving of taxpayer dollars to Wall Street corporations and banks, then I'm with him. But doing so under the guise of attacking capitalism means that Moore is either A) patently dishonest, or B) unaware of what capitalism truly means.
