I remembered another one. . .remember the big outdoor thermometers. . . .when they broke we would gather the mercury and play with it. . .roll it around from one hand to the next. . .then we would take coins and coat them with mercury to make them shiny. . . i had not put all of these together. . . .it is a miracle we are still dancing. . .

Does anyone remember the truck that would spray DDT to rid us of mosquitos in the summer months. Sometimes children would ride bicycles behind the trucks just for fun. How innocent we were in those days to all the toxins of the body. Now the toxins are of the spirit: the greed, the lack of caring, the lack of sharing, the wars and lies that are told for political expediency. These are toxins of the soul and one must be cautious in the overconsumption of such poison. We have children watch television so many hours of the day. What will they remember when all is said and done. The real time wars and 9/11 disasters. Diseases of the future will be post-traumatic disorders, anxiety and depression. First the body then the mind….what is left to poison?

I grew up in the shadow of a nuclear facility-the Savannah River Plant in South Carolina. Many of my family made their living there. They say the incidence of cancer in our area is no higher than the national average…but I think otherwise. It feels like there is no place one can go that is not contaminated by something……but they can't contaminate the soul.
