They pay taxes! But many would be happy to pay the taxes in place of the HUGE insurance premium and high deductible they have. The policy they pay for here can still kick them off, refuse to cover something and can cause them to go broke! The quote in the President's NYT OP-ED " Should people go broke if they get sick" says alot. Also in Cananda people can still purchase insurance for extra coverage - I don't think it is such a bad plan, or the plan in the UK for that matter.
