Scenes from the Garden

For a hopefully relaxing Sunday morning, a few scenes from the garden to put your spirit at ease. Mother Nature is still failing to cooperate for the most part, but our plants are gamely working away during an unusually cold and rainy summer. What? You thought that somebody who totally fails to qualify as a liberal could enjoy working in a garden? Remember… even Hitler painted landscapes and flowers.(There are full size images available by clicking on the thumbnails below.)

Corn1.jpg The sweet corn is weeks late, just like the tomatoes, but ears have sprouted and the corn silk is bursting out. If the weather remains mild enough, we may still have some fresh corn this year. (Better late than never.)

CrownThorns.jpgA crown of thorns bush, which produces some beautiful flowers at unexpected times. It attracts a lot of bees, but they never seem to bother anyone. This tree is planted on the grave of our cat, Collin. It’s a nice way to remember the old boy.

MorningGlories.jpgThese beauties absolutely cover our garden fences each year and can really put on a nice display. But by the end of the season, the foilage is so thick that they completely block out the sun to my neighbor’s herb garden. It’s a bone of contention we still struggle with.

BassetDeck.jpgMr. Basset investigates the tool shed while totally failing to offer any constructive help with the gardening.

MaxGarden.jpgMax, the tiny schnauzer, returns from excavating the garden and bringing a fair amount of topsoil with him.

Beautiful, Jazz. Ironically, this liberal makes gardens die just by looking at them. A person who can make things grow has a talent that is very special.

I love the photos of your dogs, too. Especially Mr. Bassett. He reminds me of my beloved beagle, being of the same breed group.
