"they're losing a gravity fight"

You can say that -- it's a _substance_ fight. Their "noun" as well as "verb" defects are obvious (not only the garbage legislation to date and with the House health care bill in particular now, but with underlying goals, etc., in addition to their and their liberal media and other-auxiliaries' misconduct).

You're late, Joe. I guess it takes people from the Huffington Post to express their concern about the health care plan and the Democrats' behavior for you finally to catch up to what some of us have been saying all along, as the Dems have gotten progressively worse.

I've been asking as well, are the Dems simply power-hungry, are they obscessed with trying to pass legislation (no matter how bad it is) as fast as they can, do they feel a true (strange) need to pass as much as possible this year, do they fear a public backlash or some imaginary foe next year, are they so elitist they really believe in themselves, are they not only so naive but so childish and ignorant that they believe they can do as much bad as they have so far and not expect the public backlash that they now rush so madly to mischaracterize (and to mischaracterize the public overall) in their surprise and their resentment?

Awww. Welcome to reality.

Wow, what a dramatic missing of the lesson. Please see me after class.

The Democrats are not losing a knife fight, they're losing a gravity fight. The big problem in health care is runaway costs. You can deny it, you can propose bills that ignore it, you can demonizing Republicans to the point Kim Jong Il would wince. But it's still the truth.

I was watching CNN this morning at the gym, and they did one of those informal phone-in surveys. The question was "Do you believe health care is a right...?" I was amazed that 81% of the people voting said yes. I had expected a small majority or large minority would answer positively. I never thought I'd see a number like 81%.

The fact is that an overwhelming majority of Americans want major change in the way we pay for and deliver health care. What is truly missing here is real leadership. If you didn't hear it, listen to Linda Wertheimer's piece on Morning Edition this morning (11 August) about the 1986 tax reform legislation. She hits the nail on the head. Starting with Obama, everyone's copped out. I really wish Obama would drop the whole collegiality thing on health care and knock heads.

As a life long pinko Democrat, I wish I could say I'm surprised at the Democrats and Obama's apparent shock at the effectiveness of the right wing campaign against their health car proposals. I'm not.

I guess I am a little surprised at the Obama folks missing it but, to tell the truth, I think they're a little shell shocked by now. Who wouldn't be faced with the crap they inherited?

Rick York

One suggested addendum... ASSUMPTION FIVE: That the plans they put forward were actually solid and wouldn't engender a lot of resistance when people found out more about them.

Other than that, it's not a terrible article, but it does seem to operate on the assumption that "most Americans would support these proposals if the Democrats just explained them well enough."
