Isn't it a little strange that G. Bush has kicked Gonzo to the curb after about 20 years of a very close friendship? Maybe Bush thinks he can restore his reputation by cutting ties with controversial members of his administration like Gonzo and Cheney.

Also, reading between the lines on a legal defense fund- it sounds like altho Gonzales has not approached the Bushes directly– he has done so by intermediary-which is not unusual in cases like this one that are in the public eye. There were intermediaries who approached prominent conservatives about pitching in for Scooter Libby's defense fund– so I'd bet this is also the case here. I think if it wasn't so hard to prove the charge of lying to Congress he would have already been charged — as his testimony on the US attorney scandal was vague, vapid and contradicted by his underlings.

I agree. Perhaps he'll write a textbook for Texas Tech's Government Ethics 101, titled, “Restoring Honor and Dignity to the White House.”

As far as him writing a book and getting it published… yeah he's good at living in a fantasy land.

As far as his answer to the question why he should resign, “I’m in the process of writing a book, and I’ll get into greater detail on some of those reasons.”

Haha… he didn't get into ANY detail and who will buy the book if he isn't forthcoming on all the reasons for his resignation. No wonder he doesn't have a publisher yet. Unless he's holding out for a two-book deal and the sequel will close the “gaps” in his testimony… I mean fill in the blanks he left in his first book.
