Pacatrue, you could add Indira and Sonia Gandhi to your list, former president Megawati of Indonesia, as well as Makiko Tanaka, who served as Japan's foreign minister.

On our side, we have a Secretary of State who fits the bill.

An interesting point of contrast is Europe, where Margaret Thatcher, "the grocer's daughter", became British PM and Angela Merkel is the German chancellor. There's also Golda Meir in Israel, and (almost) Tzipi Livni.

This is not a knock against Pres. Aquino, but it's interesting how almost all the female leaders in Asia are family members of extremely famous men. Aquino is the wife of assassinated leader Benigno Aquino, Aung San Ssu Kyi is the daughter of the man who negotiated Burma's independence, Benazir Bhutto was the daughter of Zukfikar Ali Bhutto, a former Prime Minister himself....

Again, not a knock against these women. They all have done amazing things, but has a woman been voted into power in Asia who was not of a famous family?

Of course, the U.S. has its Kennedeys and Bushes, too.
