qwert321:

All I know is that our economy got screwed up badly under the previous administration, and that the present one is trying to fix it...

Now, whether the fixes will work, is another story

DG:

"I notice you use the term "meaningless fluctuations". I would not call them meaningless, the problem is figuring out what their meaning is."

I am using that term because that is exactly the term that has been used by some of our readers here ("the critics) to "discount"t the steady climb of the markets since March.

No matter that the market has steadily climbed (of course there have been a few down days in between)some 40 to 50 percent forr the last four months, and no matter whatever positive indicators, to the naysayers these are still "meaningless day-to-day market fluctuations.."

Of course if the market crashes today or tomorrow, they'll be proven right. What a way to be proven right...

As to what their meaning is, again, I am no expert, but I simply see them (hope) as the beginning of our market recovery and, hopefully, the beginning of our economy's recovery, too.

I am told that the markets are a leading indicator, and that unemployment is a lagging indicator, but who am I to know...

Thanks for your comments

Dorian

And we all learned in elementary school that you can't eliminate poverty by giving everyone a million dollars.

I still wonder why you people believe reckless spending by government produces the same economic benefit as efficient spending under free markets. Of course, it all depends on the President, doesn’t it? I don’t recall you people cheering on Bush’s reckless spending.

Look at history. Expecting anything better than 2%-4% growth at this stage would be silly. As is Steve Forbes. Let's face it; Forbes and his ilk will find some way to not give credit to Obama if there is a recovery. Also, it is critical to remember that thing we all learned in business school in macroeconomics: Equities markets are leading indicators whil labor markets are lagging indicators.

Or, as Yogi said; "The opera ain't over till the fat lady sings". She's just humming now.

Nice gain DE but I think Warren Buffett will still sleep soundly tonight confident you won't be after his job.

I notice you use the term "meaningless fluctuations". I would not call them meaningless, the problem is figuring out what their meaning is. The media is terrible at this. Every day the market is up or down they will try to attach some meaning to it. When the market is up and down throughout the day they will say the same reports they said made everyone happy at 9 AM now are making them nervous at 10 AM.

The market and the economy will eventually recover because that's what they do, but nobody can predict with any confidence when that will happen.
