The trustbusting days of a century past are over. The presidency is bought and taken now. We should take down all American flags and replace them with the Goldman Sachs corporate logo, to better reflect the times we live in.

I never begrudge anyone the ability to make a fortune, as long as they make something for the rest of us. People generally agree doctors deserve compensation, as do lawyers. Do bankers and quants deserve the same, dreaming up cleaver ways to abuse a system?

The "great dream" that everyone can play the market is laughable when trading has it's own language, an inside track, everything that makes a system incomprehensible and inaccessible to outsiders. Doctors and lawyers have similar systems, but they are paid a pittance compared to the financial wiz kids in NYC. The fact that these whiz kids can FAIL and fail miserably yet still make personal fortunes beyond most people's wildest dreams is an extreme injustice. When will America wake up to the fact that Vegas has nothing on these Scam Lords?

True, quite true. Just getting out all the possible money before the whole economic system tanks completely. "Eat, drink and be merry - for tomorrow you die." I don't look forward to the next decade economically, environmentally or politically. Where exactly will all the good jobs - in fact - any jobs - be created in the US? Will we simply have to adjust to a stagnant economy with perpetually 10 to 20 percent officially and unofficialy unemployed or underemployed - and the rest hopelessly mired in old debts we can't possibly repay? I may be a little better off than most but everything could change overnight for my family and everyone else - and not for the better. Until we all realize that we are in it together - and that we have an ethical and moral imperative to care about our fellow human beings - instead of following our base, greedy and selfish natures, we are all in deep long-term trouble. We'll it's summer and try to enjoy it the best you can. Nothing will be accomplished until after Labor Day - Marc Pascal in Phoenix, AZ - a fellow contributor to TMV.
