Kids have been quoting newspapers and other reference materials for years in their term papers. I wonder why they didn't think to go after the schools for some sort of reimbursement...

There are, by my count, seven links in this post. None of them go to the AP. The AP doesn't own the news, it only own the words it writes about the news.

It has almost gotten to the point where we can't trust journalist any more than we can trust bloggers. So does it really matter where we get our news? We have to sort through numerous articles to get both sides of the story as it is.

...people will just go elsewhere.

"Fundamentally, the old media won’t control news dissemination in the future. And organisations can’t control access using old forms of accreditation any more."
********

Throughout the ages it has been known that whoever controls the flow of information has the power. This move may be about money but it also may be about power. And often the two go hand in hand. Time to boycott AP.
