Cronkite was a unique legend, the kind of newsman most would do well to emulate (and not as superficially as they have done so far). He was fair as well as being able to provide the right gravity to every situation.
It's interesting to watch parts of his interview with JFK about Vietnam when it was a new conflict. It was clear Cronkite saw trouble ahead, and he asked tough questions, but he was also fair and gave his subject a real shot to speak his mind. He asks fair, tough questions without being artifically "fair" the way modern cable news is.
