Meet the Press and Shape the Message Your Way

Lindsay Beyerstein provides another solid gold example of the watchdog lapdog “journalism” for which David Gregory is so renowned:

NBC’s David Gregory tried to entice disgraced South Carolina governor Mark Sanford onto Meet The Press by promising a friendly hearing. Gregory subscribes to the Burger King model of journalism: Have it Your Way.

Meet The Press allows you to frame the conversation as you really want to,” Gregory assured Sanford’s press secretary by email. Unfortunately for Gregory, that email found its way into the hands of a South Carolina paper that published it online.

The press secretary abruptly resigned after the letter came to light, but Gregory still has a job. I don’t see why the press secretary should resign, it’s his job to subvert journalistic integrity to assure favorable, preferably sycophantic, coverage for his boss. It’s Gregory who should step down over this.

We learn of this shameful Gregory behavior at the same time Cronkite passes away.
    Two examples of what journalism.
One is about the upholding of truth and honor. About the news and truth. About integrity and professionalism and educating the people about complicated subjects.
The other is about fame, money, being popular and making self the story. It's about access at all costs and selling your soul and having no integrity and feeding people fluff and shallow garbage. It's about drama over truth.
And while the beltway 'in' crowd talks about how sad it is that Cronkite passed, they will not see the shameful behavior they have engaged in and being about everything Cronkite abhorred.

Wow, good point, vwcat. I didn't think of that.

Gregory is trying to establish himself as the new face of MTP. Apparently he will do anything in order to do that…sad.

What do you expect in today's society, with not only a liberal media and “info-tainment,” but more importantly here, a Washington that is monstrously overgrown and which has spawned its own kind of celebrity culture? The Sunday shows are blatantly manipulated political posturing and propaganda by the politicians and their enablers.
