A report from the non partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) indicates that the proposed health care plan will not curb costs and could end up increasing costs. In a bemusing reaction many Democrats have attacked the report and tried to label CBO Director Douglas W. Elmendorf as a partisan hack of some kind.
Considering that 1) the CBO has long been recognized as non partisan, 2) these same Democrats loved the CBO when it made not so positive reports about Bush policies and 3) the Democrats control Congress (and therefore any partisanship in the office would logically tilt to them not to the minority party) the reaction is a bit odd to say the least.
Obviously we do have a major problem with our current health care system and it does need reforming. But I am hopeful that this report will allow for a more detailed review of the new proposals. The idea that we need to just rush something through is concerning to me when you consider the extent of the spending involved.
Hypocrisy? From DEMOCRATS?? Perish the thought.
It is obvious in the waning days of the Bush administration that Karl Rove got incriminating evidence on all analysts and management at the CBO, and is now blackmailing them. That is the only explanation that can explain a negative report against ObamaMessiah.
All sarcasm aside, it's unfortunate to see democrats adopt the same tactics that robbed republicans of much of their credibility. If the D's fail to govern honestly and effectively, many of their present supporters will be looking at third parties next time around.
I guess this report basically confirms what Joe Biden had to say:
“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, 'What are you talking about, Joe? You're telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?' The answer is yes, that's what I'm telling you.”
AR, I bet Dick Cheney is the mastermind behind the CBO

I have to respectfully disagree with your analysis. Not even his most ardent opponents have accused Cheney of extending his love of torture to US citizens on US soil, plus Rove has ALWAYS been the mastermind behind political manipulations, so, ipso facto, it must be Rovian not Cheneyian.
Orszag (was at CBO, now at Obama-OMB) should denounce the CBO with suitable propaganda if not send these people one night to Guantanamo (and not reveal any information or discuss this subject, except to say that insufficiently faithful members of the media will be next).
Real world comment #1 for this thread: Do not be surprised if the OMB becomes more politically active.
Real world comment #2 for this thread: The Democrats will just push harder for this plan to be approved.
