Here's an interesting note on the traffic numbers, comparing MS to Yahoo: since Yahoo's site is both a portal and a search engine, whereas those features are split in Microsoft's sites, looking at the sum of Microsoft's sites vs. Yahoo posts an even rosier picture for Microsoft.

I think Bing is better all around if not everything better. For example local, travel, products, map. the only thing there is in google's favour is people got a misconcept about google. at the old times, google's result come out faster, people get excited. now it is not an advantage anymore, it is not an advantage any more. For educated users, Bing will be their choice. I don't think people want to stay with an old technology forever.

I think the majority opinion is represented in Pogue's piece. Bing is really giving an honest effort to innovate and make its service better and I think the general public is fairly surprised by this. But from day one of the launch, it was said that a lot of time and resources would be devoted to making Bing the best possible search out there. Well here we are a month in a half later and it looks like the assault is on. It's wonderful to see Bing be proactive in the real-time search experiment, which like was mentioned, is a very early development with no promise to be a true game-changer.
Google is still very much at the forefront of the search industry, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them reeling and trying to grasp for straws soon if they can't quickly come up with a cool new feature to match the hype of Bing (and even know Yahoo with Search Pad). There is lots to make up for anyone to take over Google's position but it's not a far-fetched long term possibility.
Another search worth trying is meta search engine, eZanga.com, which is performing well with its search and online advertising due to its effective yet improving features and accurate results. The search game could be wide open in the near future.
