Senator Al Franken (D-MN)

Moments ago they officially swore in Senator Franken so the party now has it’s 60th vote. The crowd in the chamber seemed to be mostly Democrats though that is not surprising since the Congress is just getting back from it’s break and so members are presumably settling in to start the new session.

So time to see what the Democratic majority can do.

The Dem majority's doings so far have been atrocious, and their getting sixty votes in the Senate threatens worse. I just hope the Senate will show some long-overdue moderation and sanity and constrain the overreach so far of Obama and the House Dems. Odds are the Senate Dems won't moderate things and impose an overdue reality check and reform element; who trusts Harry Reid?

We'll see if Franken's vulgar and sometimes-extreme form of liberalism will characterize his Senate behavior, or if the Franken sometimes revealed when he speaks off-the-cuff about ordinary things will prevail, which I actually suspect as well as hope. Let's see what he wants gutted from the idiotic as well as destructive climate bill, for example, as well as what he wants done about reforming the health care legislation. (Will he or won't he pay attention to the costs and how to pay them?)
