If anyone had any questions…

…they should have been answered by now, we are seeing what the Apocalypse will look like; how fragile the veneer of civilization truly is.

Some are trying to use the situation as a political lever for an ephemeral “advantage” for “their side”, despicable individuals on BOTH the left AND the right.

Yet…

We are ALL human.

A major American city is being wiped out while being broadcast on television.

And the sniping continues.

I have read in multiple locations, “America always steps up to the plate when disasters occur elsewhere in the world, where are they now?” They write in complete ignorance of the response in the world.

I live in France, and I can tell you that the local newspapers are publishing web links and addresses to donate money. CNN International is reading letters on the air of people in countries from Europe to Asia to Africa, that poorest of continents, asking for information about where to donate.

There are other offers as well (thanks to PoliBlog for the link).

And even more here listed at Althouse.com.

Yet, there are some in the US who assume that reciprocation is absent.

I have written repeatedly on more than one weblog on how this disaster should NOT be used to score political points.

I am not trying to score any political points when I write this:

The reaction of those in the United States to how the rest of the world is reacting to this disaster shows both how insular and ignorant those in the United States are to the rest of the world.

Just because you do not hear about it because of the inadequate reporting in the US does NOT mean it does NOT exist.

Think outside your box, or go back to step one, and THINK in the first place.

I have tried for the past 18 months to provide the perspective of an American living outside of the United States.

I have been ignored when I have not been ridiculed for “living too long among the French”.

I will try once again in my call:

Wake up, people.

The United States is a part of the world, and the longer we reject the rest of the world, the worse the reckoning will be when it comes.

This is not partisan, this is not political.

This is reality.
