So instead of serving out her term, she wants to chase the new “shiny”? Clearly not a good contender for President. What would she do if she got tired of the media attention- what's after the Presidency? She evidently wants to run away and join the media circus.

I think our country is in dire need of a strong opposition party. Our system of government and of politics depends upon balance, debate, and ultimately some rational and reasonable choice over a single party government and a well left of center president. Unfortunately, the Republican party today is a failure as the opposition party because they have failed to provide any such balance. They are hobbled by their own infighting and general exclusion of any views that are not 100% lock and step with their litmus test politics. (Take their dismissal of and vitriol against fellow Republican General Colin Powell as a case in point.) That their star power is the likes of Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, and Rush Limbaugh only further handicaps their prospects and weakens their political position. America needs a inventive, vibrant, intelligent, substantive and powerful opposition party that can provide a balance to a single party government and offer alternative views and policies. We don't have an opposition party today — and we will not for a long time to come if the Republicans continue to promote the likes of Sarah Palin as their standard bearer.

Puller or Smith, either way, Palin was wrong---again:

"Palin has long had trouble with quotations, particularly with regard to the Framers. Her depasture speech is no exception. The most notable line was a quote attributed to Gen. Douglas MacArthur: “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.” For those of us who are military history nuts, the line is well-known and not the words of MacArthur. Some attribute it to General Lewis B. “Chesty” Puller (left) at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir when the 1st Marine division was surrounded. However, Puller is more often quoted as saying “”We’ve been looking for the enemy for some time now. We’ve finally found him. We’re surrounded. That simplifies things.” Some attribute it to Gen. Oliver Prince Smith (right). Others deny the quotation was actually ever made, here."

Quite honestly, I think leadership should be all about picking the best and brightest-but what do I know?????

I listened to Palin's speech twice on Sirius Radio, and it was one of the nuttiest speeches I've ever heard. Her apparent nervousness and breathlessness made it seem even worse.
