Joe, thank you for noticing that the outrage does not live solely on the left with regards to Governor Sanford.

As a lifelong Republican, as a conservative, let me tell you–a Governor is the Commander in Chief of the National Guard units in his or her state. He/she cannot just go AWOL and He/She cannot just walk away from their responsibilities. Sanford has tarnished his reputation and has given liberals something with which they can use a blunt object against the Republican Party of South Carolina, which is already reeling from the last legislative session.

Sanford should surrender his security clearances, resign, and retire from public life if he cannot adequately explain his outrageous example.

I love the three conflicting stories–went off to write, hiking the trail, boarded a plane–and will savor the moment when he is asked by a reporter, “which is the truth?” and “how do you explain the other two?”. Sanford is stupid, overtly political, and unprofessional–a winning combination for retirement.
