‘Zionist-Run News Media’ are Wasting Their Time: Kayhan, Islamic Republic of Iran

Judging from this pair of articles from the Islamic Republic’s hardline, regime-friendly Kayhan newspaper, Iran’s ruling theocrats have determined to blame anyone but themselves for unrest that has so marred the recent presidential election in that country.

In the first article, ‘Zionist-Run News Media’ are Wasting Their Time, the regime alleges that The New York Times and Washington Post, among others, have disproven allegations of vote-rigging in their own pages.

The Kayhan editorial says in part:

“The majority of the Iranian nation really did vote for Ahmadinejad. As confessed by many independent American experts and organizations, the illegal demonstrators, foreign spies and terrorists are wasting their time trying to overturn the will of the majority. Under the circumstances, The New York Times, The Times and all other Western news media are better off – and could save face – by supporting the constructive efforts of the Guardian Council to get at the facts, rather than taking sides and questioning the effectiveness of Iran’s religious democracy.”

In the second article, ‘Voice of America and BBC the ‘Spiritual Children’ of Netanyahu and Lieberman‘, which is an account of the comments of Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, the regime appears to be saying that Western media coverage of the Iranian election is all being organized by the Israeli government.

According to Kayhan , Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said in part:

“The heads of VOA and BBC Persian are the spiritual children of (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and (Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor) Lieberman – and their aim is to weaken Iran’s national solidarity, threaten its territorial integrity and cause it to disintegrate.”
