I don't believe for a moment that anyone in this state thought the stimulus money was in serious danger. The state legislature wrote their own override in the bill so it was coming regardless of what Sanford said or did. Sanford was doing some double speak, saying 'no' to it one way while allowing it anyway. If he was serious about turning it down, he would have pursued this further in the courts, but he didn't. His toughest critics on that issue have been folks within his own party, simply because he wouldn't refuse it outright. I'm happy it came, but I'm a bit concerned about what lies ahead in a couple of years when the jobs provided by the stimulus money run out of funding.
