This remark makes you look rather foolish: "Friedrich let a good story get in the way of a basic fact. Flies aren’t animals. They’re insects."

ok, although PETA are shameless publicity hounds, and I FULLY support ANYONES right to kill a fly (kill a hundred, i dont care), one thing should be said; insects ARE in fact animals, at least technically. they belong to the scientific kingdom Animalia, ergo, they are animals

See my comment to the prior piece on this. PETA folks really do catch-and-release insects, spiders and rodents they find in their homes. And, yes, they regard insects as “animals”, or as my one PETA friend would say “sensient beings”.

To shannonlee, PETA may attract a few more members with these stunts, but they lose the public.

I'd call my friend about the presidential swat, but I don't want to listen to a 30 minute PETA-line rant. Maybe after the “scandal” blows over she and I can talk again.

You'd be surprised at the huge number of soccer moms and other mild-mannered types that are closet-PETA supporters. I sleep with one and insects are shooed out of the house, not squished. Obama better never be brusque with the new dog or he is toast in '12.

I've always suspected that PETA is either the world's longest ongoing performance-art piece or a ratf*ck wholly paid for by right-wing billionaires to try to make the left look bad. It's just incomprehensible that these people could do this for so many years and be totally in earnest

Okay PETA you set the standard, I want a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher. I also think if you truly beleive this an animal then you should provide everyone with a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher. By the way PETA did you know that flies carry harmful germs.

They do this all of the time. Their web hits go up ten fold every time they do something like this. Once people get to their site…for what ever silly reason…the home page hits them with what PETA really cares about.

They get more people than they lose when they do these kinds of stunts. Good marketing.
