Obama’s Plan For Gay Rights

Check it out.

Following up on this morning’s post, it looks like a perfect storm is brewing.

You mean just gays? Or gays and lesbians? Or is it gays, lesbians and bisexuals? Or is it gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals? Or is it gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transsexuals and polygamists? Or is it……………?

What exactly are we talking about that's being “descriminated” against?

And is “the perfect storm” code for Do Ask Do Tell, the documentary that forces outing of bi-curious politicians? I thought bi-curious was such a benign word used to lure teens to GLBT dances and events. At least I deduced that hearing their ads on my kids radio station. Now “bi-curious” takes on such a sinsiter edge. When you have an extreme agenda, force is not ruled out. So now don't wonder why the extreme right had Gitmo..

  2. Silhouette says:

I notice that item #1 planned by the queer alliance [a more encompasing and incusive term for non-heteros] is to make certain that everyone sees that the opposition to queers getting married is “religious based”.

    lol..

I can understand that surely. If people started looking at homosexuality and any other deviant fetish as learned, proven in an industry to be an acquired behavioral trait, then the “people are mean and being unfair to us” argument would fly right out the window.

  3. Ethos says:

Homosexuality is not learned behavior, though it is deviant by definition. Truly it's difficult if not impossible to have a reasonable discussion on the topic when one side continues to pretend people wake up one day and somehow decide it would be fun to be gay.

I don't understand what Silhouette is so scared of.

Perfect storm, indeed. (1) Lack of accidental pregnancies + education levels equivalent to straight people = expendable income. (2) The fact that the gay community has been systematically discriminated against since forever means that they are often more in touch (on average) with politics, of course particularly when it comes to gay issues. 1 + 2 = gay people give lots of money to political causes and politicians they are passionate about. I think the community and their allies should hit 'em where it hurts: the pocket book. It think it's kind of incredible that Obama has said and done nothing about the brief, and has said and done nothing to advance civil rights for the LGBT community.

@ChrisWWW: “I don't understand what Silhouette is so scared of.”

In case you've missed Sil's previous comments, I'm pretty sure it has to do with hir massive obsession with gay sex and how it relates to animal insemination.

  6. GeorgeSorwell says:

I know and respect a number of gay people.

And I don't care how they got that way.

    They deserve their civil rights.

  7. pacatrue says:

My impression has been that Obama has prioritized health care, the stimulus package, energy program, and his overall budget higher than advancing gay rights. If I am guessing correctly, the motivation is clear: avoid a culture war fight in order to get “bigger” things through. I wouldn't be surprised if things like Don't Ask, Don't Tell are done away with AFTER this year's ambitious legislative agenda gets through, which puts it into 2010. Of course, it's certainly fair for gay rights advocates to push back on that.

Irrational people don't need a reason to be irrational.

It's pretty obvious. Some things are more important, particularly to all people, than other things.
