One of my favorite things to do is go to a discussion, book signing whatever by some author that I like. I wait in line, then tell them I only check their books out of the library, hand them twenty dollars and leave. The shock on their face is always worth it. I think Roger Zelazny was the only one quick enough to react.

Good old Harlan Elllison. Nice to see him being as contentious and opinionated as ever. I understand the expecting to get paid bit, but just how lucrative was all the writing he did four and five decades ago? I suspect he would have been a writer regardless of the pay. Anyway, I have a lot of respect for Harlan Ellison, both his talent and his early disdain for the wasteland that so much of television was… and is. I say that realizing he rubs many people the wrong way. I doubt he loses much sleep over it though.

Nice work if you can get it but as James Joyner points out there are plenty of people out there willing to do it for nothing or next to nothing.(like you and me Jazz)
