Lets face it, the GOP is being run by a bunch of Christian white guys who really, really, REALLY wish it was still the 50's. They see anything that even hints of impinging on the hegemony of white men as a direct attack, and that includes just giving women and minorities a fair shake. Ask them to quit saying Merry Christmas at bar mitzvahs and all of a sudden we are trying to destroy Christmas. Don't outlaw abortion and your forcing their daughters to get knocked up and be sluts, allow gay men to get married and your ruining marriage for straight god fearing folk. People living their lives differently is seen as a direct threat not only to them but to American culture, which in their minds is an exact mirror of their opinions and goals, regardless of what the Constitution says. This opinion has entrenched itself so deeply in the party they are even going after each other. On the plus side, everyone is getting so sick of their sanctimonious prattle and ignorant hypocrisy that the GOP is going to be relegated to the political woodshed for a good while until the loudmouths get silenced for good.

OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO RAG ON A HISPANIC WOMAN NOMINEE TO THE SUPREME COURT!

Rush and Newt are framing this argument for the 2010 congressional and senate races.

By the time the campaign starts in earnest, unemployment will be at the highest levels since the great depression. Senators who voted for the woman who denied jobs to white and Hispanic men because not enough blacks passed a test will be fodder for 30 second commercials. So will their congressional counterparts.

Staggering unemployment will be the foundation of another anti-illegal immigration push just prior to election time. Congressmen who are counting on appearing in ads with Obama’s big smile will think twice once he’s labeled “Mr. Amnesty” for people taking jobs that Americans could have. The bloom, ladies and gentlemen, will be off the rose by that time.

The Hispanic vote is segmented much more than the mainstream media would like you to think. Mexicans have different priorities than Puerto Ricans and Cubans. Also, the Latino voters are more concentrated in certain areas; therefore they are far less a factor in a number of districts where illegal immigration is bad issue for Obamaites.

Yes, the liberal brain trust has deemed it a bad move, some RINOs have followed to maintain their cocktail party invitations and even one or two actual conservatives are vacillating on how hard to play this, but there is an excellent case to be made for nailing Sotomayor to the wall for her racist gaff.

@BD - I read your link and loved those comments. Thomas and the other conservative judges may vote in favor of Ricci in spite of current precedent and interpretation of EEOC and Title VII. This would be a conservative version of empathy and acvtivism...
